The Apple TV+ channel in the TV app comes with original shows, movies, and documentaries. If you have a subscription, you might want to download a flick or two on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to binge during your commute.

How to Download Apple TV+ Shows and Movies on iPhone or iPad

To stream and download shows from Apple TV+, you’ll need a subscription. It costs $4.99/month, but if you’ve bought an Apple device recently, you’ll get one year of Apple TV+ subscription for free.

Once you’ve subscribed, go to the main page of the TV app. You’ll see Apple TV+ channel as one of the sections (along with other movies, TV shows, channels).

To find a TV show or a movie to download, tap on the “Search” tab from the bottom toolbar.

Here, search for a title and tap on it to open the detailed page.

Here, you can scroll down to the episode list, and tap on the little “Download” button to start the download.

When you tap on an episode title, you’ll see a more prominent “Download” button below the Play Episode button.

The download will start in the background.

You can’t download anything using cellular data, so you’ll have to be connected to Wi-Fi. Plus, the iOS and iPadOS apps don’t allow you to choose video quality. The app will automatically download the file that is best for your device.

There’s no Downloads section in the app either. So, to monitor episode downloads and pause them, go to the “Library” section and tap on the “Downloaded” button.

Here, select the show that’s currently downloading.

On this page, you’ll see a list of downloading episodes. Tap on the “Stop” button next to a title to stop the download process.

To delete a downloaded episode or a movie, swipe left on the title and tap on the “Delete” button.

From the next popup, tap on “Delete Download” to confirm.

How to Download Apple TV+ Shows and Movies on Mac

If you prefer watching shows on the bigger screen of your Mac (or an attached monitor), you can also download shows for offline viewing on your computer.

Open the TV app on your Mac running macOS Catalina. Find the show you want to download by browsing the Watch Now section or by using the search tool found in the top toolbar.

Here, search for the series and then click on it to open the show’s page.

You can now browse through the seasons and click on an episode to select it.

Here, click on the “Download” button to start the download.

You can monitor the downloads by clicking on the “Downloads” button from the top toolbar.

Here, you can click on the “Pause” button to stop a download. To pause all downloads, click on the “Pause Downloads” button from the bottom of the window.

If you want to delete a download from the Downloads menu, you can simply right-click on the episode title and click on the “Delete” button.

You can also delete a movie or TV show from the Library tab. Here, click on the “Downloaded” button from the sidebar and click on a title.

From the details page, locate the episode to delete and then click on the “Menu” button.

From the menu, click on “Delete From Library” to delete the episode.

Unlike the iOS and iPadOS app, the TV app on the Mac lets you change the download settings.

Click on the “TV” button from the menu bar and then select the “Preferences” button. Alternatively, you can use the Command+; keyboard shortcut to quickly open the app’s preferences menu.

Here, in the “Playback” section, click on the drop-down next to “Download Quality.” You can switch between “Up to HD,” “Up to SD,” and “Most Compatible Format.” Choose the “Up to SD” option to save on storage space.
